Well, I'M PREGNANT.

There's no denying it now. Here I am at 13 weeks and I have finally both seen and heard the evidence growing inside my tummy.

Here's a picture of our little surprise:
This was the better of the two pictures we had. This was not the official ultrasound (that will be on the 30th because the technician wasn't there today) but Dr Gordon is awesome (and hilarious by the way) and wanted us to get a little peak anyway. It was a lot clearer, obviously, on the 42" plasma screen they had in the room. We could see his little heart beating (we heard it earlier before the ultrasound--I thought for sure I wouldn't hear anything! But we did--loud and clear!!) and we saw his legs kicking around, we saw his spine very clearly (it's that white line at the top of his body--hard to tell when I'm just explaining it without pointing it out to you in person. He turned his head away, so we only saw his profile for a moment. It was all so incredible. I'm simply in awe.

Now I'm really excited! Up to this point I was just worried and in total unbelief. Now I have the evidence and assurance I needed and can finally feel like I can tell people. I'm at 13 weeks and after 14, the first trimester ends which is when they say you are in the clear and can tell people with the most confidence.

For records sake of big events in our lives, I will elaborate on all the earlier details.

Come the end of November, I was half-suspecting that I was pregnant, but didn't think it could be so because I had been really sick--bad cold, tired, missed some work--I figured it was just because of that. Just to be sure, with my sister's advice and moral support at Walmart, I went and got a pregnancy test. Negative. Week later, Negative again. So, another 4 weeks went by--I finally said, Ok I better go in to the Health Center to see if I have some kind of virus or something. Thinking, there's no way it's because I'm pregnant. HA. They run a test, the doctor comes back and blows me out of the water with "well, you are pregnant." He goes on to assure me that it's perfectly ok I was on the b.c. pills during the first part, that I'm just part of that 1% it didn't work for because I took it correctly, and taking it that first month didn't harm the baby. I could feel my face turning red with shock and I was close to tears but kept it in. He sent me all over the health center--go here to get the prescription for pre-natal vitamins, go here to get it filled, go upstairs to see administration to get the list of OBs to go to in Provo covered under the insurance...I went upstairs first. When i got up there there was an empty lobby in the loft area over looking the main entrance and lobby downstairs. No one could see me, and no one was around, so I just sat down on the couch and balled. Completely, utterly shocked. Didn't understand why now, why me, what we were going to do, not ready, etc. All my worries I cried out as much as I could. Then I had to pull myself together, so i did. I ran around the health center and did everything I was supposed to and then paid for my vitamins and appointment before heading out to my car, where i cried again. I cried again in the parking lot, after I finally found a spot, and finally dragged myself out of the car and up the ramp/hill on the south end of campus. Coming down the ramp, was none other than Nikki. I totally spilled the beans right then and there, which I felt really bad about because I hadn't told Scott yet. But i HAD to tell SOMEONE!! I headed to work, where I developed a headache and fatigue from all the previous crying.

It being finals week, I didn't see Scott until 7:30 and we went home about then. When we got home he could tell something was wrong, but I was starving so I attempted to make an egg, but left it on the burner when I went to our bedroom and plopped down on the bed. He came over and put his arm around me for a while. I started to cry, but before I got really into it, I just pouted "I'm pregnant." He stood up and looked at me with this wildly excited face and said "really?! Oh Katie! That's great news...That's nothing to be sad about! (big hug)" etc I can't remember now exactly, but he made me feel a whole lot better with his initial reaction.
I went back to my egg--it was all cooked on the pan of course. I just ate it out of the pan with my fingers. Scott then just said over and over "wow" like this is big stuff kind of wow. It only took a few more minutes for it to really sink in for him and for him to worry and freak out as I had. We spent a good long time sitting on the bed comforting each other. He was worried and sad about the timing, not being ready, not knowing anything at all. We had to comfort one another, but in the end we found enough peace to sleep well that night.

It took us the better part of December to get used to the idea--a few nights of crying and Scott comforting was part of our Christmas vacation.. My first schedule prenatal appointment wasn't until today! SO hard to wait! Scott told Andrew during finals because he'd spent the whole day with him (Andrew was in 2 of his CS classes). I of course told Jennifer, who has been the most amazing source of advice and strength and comfort to me. I really have a great big sis. Jen told Greg because Greg was actually really excited and happy about it--which is really cool. We didn't tell anyone else until Christmas. I sent home a small manilla package with a pacifier wrapped up in bubble wrap so no one could guess, and told told Steve not to let mom and dad open it until we called them. So on Christmas they were of course waiting anxiously to find out what it was. When they opened it I could tell they were surprised, yet happy. It was fun, but i wish i could have been there. The better version was what happened at the Browns' on Christmas!!
Christmas Eve, we had our huge dinner with the whole family, and Amy, Scott's brother Kevin's wife, announced to those who didn't know(basically just a few of us) that she was pregnant! My other sis-in-law Carie is also pregnant, as is Scott's cousin Mike's(practically a brother) wife. It was SO hard not to spill the beans, especially when Scott's Dad went on and on about how special it was to have so many babies coming and blah blah blah.
So Christmas morning, we set out our little white box (pacifier inside) with gold and red ribbon for Bill and Brenda--hidden amongst the bazillion presents. Most of the presents had been gone through when they finally were going to open it. I almost just wanted them to wait until the end, but Scott told them to go ahead. His mom untied the ribbon and opened it up, took out the pacifier with a puzzled look, and then you could actually see the light bulb go off in her head. Scott nodded and said Yup, we're pregnant! Bill got up and came over and gave me a big hug, just so happy and surprised--as was everyone in the room. Brenda gave me a hug too. Amy and Carie were both really excited--and later we talked baby on several occasions. Carie even gave me a bunch of pregnancy magazines and stuff which was very thoughtful.
Overall, a wonderful experience, full of surprises and happiness. I am finally now really excited about the whole thing, even though the timing was slightly off and I am still somewhat clueless and worried about the future.

New from the Newlyweds

I'm back in Provo--or Springville rather. My new apartment is a MESS. There's boxes and random stuff EVERYWHERE. It's much harder to move in 2 people than just yourself. I'm definitely feeling wife-y.

We got in on Monday at 10am and spent the entire day with Scott's dad who flew in an hour after us. We went to PF changs for lunch and then spent the rest of the day hunting down a good mattress. We went to many many stores. We bought a few neccessties like cereal, TP, etc, not much yet. I have a list that is continually growing of the things we still need to get--like a microwave. Anyway. Mattress shopping is tough! It's a really big decision. Anyway, Scott and I crashed on an air mattress in the meantime. Tuesday we went to IKEA with Scott's dad and he was very generous and got us $500 worth of furniture--a TV stand with surrounding shelves, a desk, a drawer unit to go by the desk, and a bookcase. All being from IKEA, we of course have to put it all together. Scott put together the TV stand (without the shelves) last night while I started to unpack the kitchen. Today he's going to put together the desk, but he started work so he'll be gone from 8 to 5 everyday. Pretty bummy. And then this weekend he and his dad are going on a 3 day hike up to King's Peak which is somewhere near the UT/ WY border. After IKEA, Scott's dad left to go up to his parents house and Scott and I went to go buy the mattress we decided on. It's really nice, but really expensive. Hopefully it will last us a good 15 to 20 years. Hopefully.

i had my hair "run-through" today with Annessa at PureBliss Salon. She talked me into buying hair extensions and it's the best decision i've made so far. Just you wait because I am going to be lookin like a princess. I'm very happy with how my hair is going to be. All smiles here--though it's been a crazy hectic day. Only 2 more days now to get everything done. I'm hoping tomorrow will be the brunt of it and Friday can be more relaxing. We can only hope. :) I am VERY excited.

Today Scott and I went to pick out his tux for the wedding. It's spiffy, he's going to look really good in it. He'll be wearing a navy vest and tie too. We also decided to have the dads wear the navy vests too.

Got moving boxes and are starting to put stuff into storage. We need to find someone to meet/drive us at the SLC airport on Aug 1 to drive Scott's car and keep it while we are gone so we don't have to pay to keep it parked at the airport for a month!

I still need to find a hair dresser--decide on what to do about a veil :P

With These cakes, I like circular cakes either stacked or not, i like both; I also like the draping on the one cake, Most of the examples of how flowers and ribbons are being used on these cakes I don't really care for probably just because I think they picked ugly flowers, but that's just me. I probably like this first pictured cake the most. I like the dots and the ribbon at the bottom of each layer, I would make the ribbon dark blue and the flower more bright, but I like this cake. MMMM cake.

Scott and I went and bought 5 boxes of blank invitations from XPEDX, and then this morning, we took them to Copies Plus Printing in Springville to make decisions on fonts, colors and wording. Overall it's going to be a nice chunk of money less to do it this way. Monday or Tuesday, we will meet with the Graphic Designer who will have put samples together of the fonts/colors we picked. We will approve everything and then they said it would only take a couple of days to finish everything before we pick them up! Nice and Fast!! Now we just have to pick a photo to go inside, and decide how to do the ceremony/wedding dinner cards. I've started to gather a small army consisting of my roommate, Nikki and my visiting teachers and they'll help me address the envelopes whenever I want to do that. We're probably going to get clear return address labels for the back. Everything's working out pretty good and taking a lot less time than I imagined, a nice stress-reliever Ü.

Finally starting to figure some stuff out! Phew!

Checked out a couple places at Thanksgiving Point--The Tropical Room, or The Loggia
And looking in to The Kirtland Room (ironic?) at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. The Kirtland Room is looking like a good deal to me right now, especially with pricing and what's included and available.

My new motto: :) less stress is best

Getting Engagement Pictures taken by Jen tomorrow morning, and we hope to continue accumulating addresses and getting a count for our guest list for our wedding dinner in UT. Hopefully getting those done in the next 2 weeks.

Wedding dress fitting is on Monday--looking for shoes, etc for that :S not exactly finding the shoes I want [nose wrinkle] we'll see.

Looking into this time line: July 28--wedding/dinner Aug 2 or 3 for the Georgia Reception. Aug 24 or 25 Open House in Ohio

My sis and I went last week to the Mall to try on my dress again. She loved it, I love it, I decided to go ahead and buy it! So i did! Unfortunately, I can't put pictures up of it because the groom reads this blog ;) But it's beautiful, it's perfect for summer and It's a big thing i get to check off the To Do list!! Wahooo!!!

ALSO: After going swishy washy about where we should get married, I talked to my parents, with Scott, who convinced me out of my temporary insanity of getting married in OH, and decided a Utah wedding really would be the best. So Yesterday, Scott and I called up the Scheduling people at the Timpanogos Temple (Scott and I drove up there on Sunday to see it in person and walk around the beautiful grounds) and set the date for July 28th (a Saturday) at 1:00!! Scott and I have to get there around Noon, but that's perfect and it's just what we wanted!! Plus we have a big room--for 37 people!! We counted up possible family and only got up to about 23, so we have some room to spare for others. It's all working out great, but I do realize this is just the beginning!

Making it Official

So the last couple of weeks I've been waiting to see when/how I'd get engaged to Scott. Everyone kind of knew it was coming we just didn't know when.

Well Today is the day! April 25th 2007!!
How it all went down:

I was expecting breakfast the canyon just from things he'd told me: I'm picking you up early and wear a jacket...
Then yesterday he told me he was picking me up early. Early turned out to be at 6:15 AM !!! yeah that's definitely early.

So I wake up at 5:30 get ready just as it turns 6:15 and he knocks. I open the door and he's got flowers!
I grabbed some keys and we walk to the car. Inside there's a plate with bagels and strudels and hot chocolate in the cup holders.

Not knowing what we were doing or where we were going, i didn't eat the food or drink the hot chocolate because for some reason I thought we were going to eat it somewhere. I was wrong. So we drive up to the canyon and he just keeps going and going--way past where I had thought he was going. We get to Heber and it's not til then I realize OK, I really don't know what's up. Then he pulls into this place called the Hub Cafe, and I thought, OK this is where we are going to have breakfast? But he brings his hot chocolate with him. I thought I don't want to bring mine if we're going to eat here...but then he says, I don't think we're going to go inside. (then i wished i did bring it ) He took me across the parking lot and there's this SUV with a trailer. Then it hit me, I saw "Utah Outdoor Adventures" "hot air balloon rides" and the trailer had a hot air balloon basket on it!!! This is when i exploded with surprise and excitement, I just couldn't believe it!! BIG surprise

We hopped in the car and drove over to the Heber airport and the two guys, the pilot, Will, and groundsman, Mike set up the balloon. It actually took a while to do this. They had to pull it all out and set up the basket and such and then take a big fan to get it blown up a bit before putting hot air in it. Scott helped hold the balloon open as it was filling up.

Once all the setting up was done, we climbed in and we were off!! It was SO amazing!! I wasn't too scared because I felt pretty secure, Scott was a little nervous. It was so cool because of how far up you get so fast! One minute you're floating at ground level and then the next you are already 50, then 100 ft up and more!! It was a beautiful sun shiny day and not too too cold. The hot air was nice and warm when he pulled the triggers to release it.
We went up and down and Will, the pilot, took pictures of us (which he'll send us later) and Mike the other guy was in the truck following somewhat depending on the roads. Will was radio-ing him telling him where to go. And sometimes sounded quite anxious that he wasn't close. (i found out why later)

So we're floating up and down and it's beautiful, somewhat cold, but it was so beautiful. Then Mike gets pretty close with the truck and Will tells him to get out the "picnic basket" Then Scott starts saying all these sweet things. Then he says "I want to be with you forever" I say "i will" because I"m not exactly sure that he's proposing (he says things like that all the time these days) It wasn't until he turned me around to look down at the truck to read a banner that says "WILL YOU MARRY ME?" !!! I look at him in shock and he's getting down on one knee, he pulled out this beautiful red ring box, opens it and asks if I will marry him! OF course I say YES!! with enthusiasm and he puts the ring on my finger (he almost put it on my right hand ;) ;) ) and then we kiss, we hug, I'm saying how amazing he is and I can't believe it. He jokes that now he doesn't know what to say because everything was just leading up to that point!! It was so amazing!! more pictures, kisses and hugs, and LOTS of looking at my sparkling ring!! I just couldn't believe it.

Back on the ground, Will pulls out cobalt blue glasses and we toast with sparkling cider looking over at Mt Timp. It was so awesome!
Back in the car we're talking a mile a minute and about everything. We tried to call the parents but no one is home yet, we eventually got a hold of all the immediate family.

We went to breakfast once we got to Provo, because we were hungry :)
I kept the receipt--the first meal together being engaged :)
Scott had more flowers for me hidden in the trunk--these were big beautiful roses!! I was shocked with getting so many flowers!!

We stopped by Scott's sister, Darcy's, apartment (it's actually only one below mine), to tell her the news and then we go up to my apartment where there was a LOT of screaming and hugs from Nikki, Melissa and Lauren (and a little later from Mallory when she came home) as we told them the story! It was so much better than what I'd hoped for!! (apparently they just knew I was getting engaged so they were waiting around for me to get home!)

Sadly Scott had to go into work and still has one more final to take! So i don't get to see him the rest of the day!!
I can't hardly believe it's actually official now!!

I totally found THE dress!!! Over the course of the last months I've especially been tuning into the kind of dress i wanted and have been ripping out a couple pictures of dresses I wanted to try on. There were 3 at Alysse's Bridal that i wanted to try and yesterday we found a couple hours to do just that. Lauren, Mallory and Melissa all joined me and we went to the Mall. My helper's name was Marissa and she found the dresses in my sizes. Lauren helped me get them on and zipped up or laced up. I tried the 2 I didn't like as much on first. They were pretty but not my favorite. The 3rd one, the one I liked the most in the picture, turned out to be my favorite on my as well. It's gorgeous and looks perfect on me! It's lace up in the back and there won't have to be hardly any alterations if any. I"m SO excited. It's a really good price too. I'm SO excited. I just have to get it before the end of April to get those deals. I'm going to take Jen with me later this weekend so she can help me decide for sure and be there if I'm going to buy it too.

Mock Bachelorette Party

Last night, my sister Jen helped host a Girl's Night for me and my friends--Lauren, Nikki, Melissa and Mallory. We held it at her community Clubhouse which is equipped with a kitchen, a big living room/dining area, a theatre, an exercise room, restrooms, and outside a hot tub and a pool--really nice place. We had tons of food--clam dip and chips, veggies and ranch dip, and fruits/pretzels etc for our chocolate fondue.
We also had fun making Shirley Temples complete with a cherry and a lemon slice. It was so fun. We took tons of pictures, talked about all our "firsts" and happiest memories from the last year and talked about all our memories--all this over diving into our food and then continued later in the hot tub (after the hail and rain stopped of course ;) ).

Our night finished off by playing in the theatre and watching Sleeping Beauty--where most of us became little sleeping beauties ourselves!! My sister was a big help and it was fun to hang out with her and have her there to share our night.
We had such a blast! We promptly cleaned up, drove home and crashed in our beds though. These beauties were tuckered out!!

A Change of Mind

I had been thinking that we could leave out Ohio altogether when it comes to having a receptions, but the more I thought about it the more I knew I couldn't do that. The main reason is because Ohio is the most accessible place for my mom's side of the family to come. They would never be able to travel to Utah or Georgia even for a few days. Ohio is only a half-day's drive for most of them, only 4 hours for my grandma and my mom's brother. I really don't want to just not include them. I'm 99% positive it would just be too hard for them, there's a much better chance for my mom's side being able to come to Ohio.

So what we'd have to talk about, is getting married here in UT, but maybe just having a lunch/dinner (depending on time of day) for after the wedding. I don't think there's all that many people in UT anyway who would be coming so cost wise it would probably be more effective anyway--but then both those things have yet to be determined. Then we could do an open-house/small reception in Ohio and maybe a bigger one in Georgia depending on how many people would be coming.

Just some thoughts.

Trying to register is madness. You don't want to register for too much or too little, you have to get what you need, but risk getting things you want but don't really need. GAH. Then actually picking out things? madness. I just wanted a simple set of flatware, right---over 80 different sets to choose from!! Oh geez. My head is spinning. I thought this was supposed to be fun? Maybe I'm worrying too much again. I've got to kick this perfectionist thing. Scott got bored real quick, I think we're just going to have to go to Target and use the fun scanner guns--that'll get him pumped. It'll probably be less madness for us too. :)

Wedding Registries

Today I snuck in a question about wedding registries with Scott. I asked him where he would want to register or how important the registry is to him. I was glad to find out that we were on the same page about how one should register. We are both in agreement that you should register for things you NEED first and formost, and that you shouldn't go overboard because then you end up with a bunch of stuff you can't use and don't get the things you need to survive--like pots and pans or spoons. I was telling him how my friend Mallory is registered at FOUR places!! I think 2 is good, especially if you register at a place that has a variety of things--like Target. I'm looking forward to getting the registries done soon. I'm going to start them and then show Scott and he can add on too. I just want to get a jumpstart on things that will be important toward the beginning stages of wedding prep and planning.

Time's a Tickin'

It's April 2, and so far...no proposal, BUT, because by the time he actaully does put a ring on my finger I'm only going to have about 3 months to plan my entire wedding... I am starting to pick stuff out and decide what I want--kind semi-secret. Pretty much it's all just secret from Scott. And, to be totally honest, I've been doing this for over a month.

What WE have decided:

Well, we did go ring shopping to a couple places on March 3rd and again later in the month and decided on the round-about budget for my ring as well as what we were looking for in quality/price for a diamond. He's got a really good idea of what I like, and especially what I don't like. Now he just has to break down and buy one.
The wedding with either be at the end of June, or towards the end of July. We will most likely be married and have the main reception here in UT, and a second reception in GA. We may or may not have a reception/open house in Ohio, and if we do it will be small. Also, If there is something in OH, if it's in June it will be after the wedding, but if it's at the end of July it will probably be the weekend before we get married--it's been done so I've heard.
We've looked at all the possible temples, but haven't picked one. I like Bountiful or Timpanogos, I also like Jordan River Temple, but not as much. I like the SLC temple but I don't like how busy and how everyone wants to go to that temple. SO that's all WE have decided together. yeah, pretty much nothing.

What I've decided/looked at:

I've gone wedding dress shopping to The Bridal Center where I tried on 5 dresses. I liked 2, but they were both nearly $800 and really hot for summer. But now I have a better idea of what i'm looking for.

I've picked colors I would like. This color Blue for things like bridesmaids dresses/ties main color i guess. Then for the flowers I want punches of summery oranges/yellows and corals.

I picked out the Bridesmaid dress too. I found it at Modest By Design, but i've seen it other places. I like it with the bow/ribbon around the waist and in a solid color, no flowers. The color is probably the one called Cobalt.

I guess I haven't really done much, but soon I hope to start at least one registry and find a place to live in July for myself, whether it's single or married housing. My current contract will end on June 21st. Yikes. What's a girl to do?

How We Met

We both lived in the same apartment complex--Centennial Apartments. He lived in 111; I lived in 321. We attended the same BYU ward-188th. My roommates started becoming friends with his apartment, and two of them-Jared and Dave--were my hometeachers. We mostly started becoming friends in November of 2005, and by December, I guess I left somekind of impression on him. This whole thing started because he said that he heard I was a master seamstress. He had a little problem he wanted me to help out with. In the seam of his suitjacket, there was a pin left in it, and there was no way to get it out without taking out the seam. He also had a few buttons falling off. Well, of course I accepted the challenge--mostly to show off. The night I returned it, I flirted with him and teased him about "paying me back"--"what do I get if I do this?" I didn't get a clear answer until he was nearly out the door after hanging out in our apartment for most of the night. He said How about I take you out on Friday? Naturally I agreed.
The date was a success, we went to the Nickelcade with Dave and his date, and had a really good time--especially when we made fools of ourselves playing Dance Dance Revolution. After getting a bunch of tickets we bought tatoos and I wanted a little green yarn ring and a little clicker frog to annoy people. After driving back, we ended up at his place to watch a movie--Miracle--where an arm around me turned into holding hands! We definately hit it off. The next day he flew home for Christmas break and nothing between us happened for 3 weeks!! I really didn't know what to expect after returning back after break...but he continued to come over and ask me out on dates and eventually kissed me on January 29, 2006.
